‘Kraven the Hunter’ trailer teases a battle against the MCU that Sony just might win

Marvel fans are finally able to catch a a glimpse of one of Spider-Man's most iconic adversaries.

As a character, Kraven the Hunter remains one of Spider-Man’s most formidable rogues — and a Marvel villain unlike any ever seen on the big screen. Now, fans of the bloodthirsty mutant are able to get their first look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s Kraven in the brand-new trailer for Sony’s Kraven the Hunter.

I’ll admit that the title is pretty darn straightforward, but it’s not like Kraven is one to mince words. Check it out below.

Kraven the Hunter looks to follow Sergei Kravinoff (Kraven the Hunter) as he sets out to become the greatest hunter in the world — fighting his way through all sorts of animals and adversaries in the process. Badass might be an understatement.

Continuing to lean into their villainous origin flicks, Sony seems to be taking a different approach when it comes to adapting some of the MCU characters they call their own. More than that, fans are surprisingly stoked to catch a glimpse of the world’s greatest hunter. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the comments on this trailer. They’re not half bad.

Whether it’s Morbius being memed into infinity or Venom’s lukewarm reception — Sony has certainly received its fair share of backlash for some of the stories they’ve brought to life recently. Still, that hasn’t stopped them from taking the genre in a new direction anyway, which deserves a certain level of support from all you superhero cynics out there (myself included).

And, this time, it just so happens that Sony will be going up against Marvel Studios itself, as Kraven the Hunter opens in theaters this Oct. 6, the very same day that Loki season two premieres on Disney Plus. If this flurry of excitement caused by the trailer is any indication, this is a battle Sony might just win.

Competing against Marvel is hard – plain and simple. All anyone can hope for now is that the folks over at Sony do Kraven justice, and set up a story that foreshadows his pursuit of the ultimate trophy – the most dangerous game alive: Spider-Man.
