Kurt Wimmer Will Write A Point Break Remake

Twitch is reporting that writer Kurt Wimmer will be penning a script for the Point Break remake. Wimmer, who somehow keeps managing to score projects despite the fact that he usually writes bad films, will be working on the script for producers RGM Entertainment. Twitch is reporting that writer Kurt Wimmer will be penning a script for the Point Break remake. Wimmer, who somehow keeps managing to score projects despite the fact that he usually writes bad films, will be working on the script for producers RGM Entertainment. While the core story will be the same, instead of revolving around surfing and skydiving, Wimmer’s script will centre on surfing and skiing.

The original Point Break was an action film from Kathryn Bigelow that was released in 1991. The film starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze and told the story of an FBI agent that went undercover to catch a gang of bank robbers who also happened to be surfers. Reeves played the FBI agent who infiltrates the surfing community led by Swayze.

As a director, Wimmer doesn’t have much experience (Equilibrium being his most notable film), but as a writer, he has a fair amount of credits. He penned the upcoming Total Recall remake and was also responsible for writing films like Salt, Law Abiding Citizen, Street Kings, Ultraviolet etc.

Admittedly, not all of his films were bad but a good handful of them were complete duds. Personally, I found nothing special in Salt, Ultraviolet or Street Kings. In fact, those film’s had major issues which all stemmed from the scripts. That being said, I did enjoy Law Abiding Citizen and Equilbrium. Plus, the Total Recall remake does seem promising.

I honestly didn’t care for the original Point Break so I have little to no interest in a remake. It was an alright film but not something I’d care to see be remade. The film does have a large fanbase though so I’m sure there are people out there that are pretty excited about this.

What do you think? Is Wimmer the right guy to pen the remake?
