Former Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler has been cast in a small role in the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed drama Argo. Chandler joins Affleck and already-cast actors Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, and Scoot McNairyIndie Wire is reporting that Chandler’s role will be small, and there has been no word yet on what part he will be playing.

Argo, which is based on an article featured in ‘Wired’ magazine in 2007 titled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran,” will follow a rescue mission that’s launched by the government agency to save a group of diplomats in the capital city. The mission involved convincing the Iranian government that the diplomats were actually a Hollywood film crew scouting locations.

Affleck will play the lead role in Argo, the CIA ex-filtration expert who develops the plan. Arkin is set to portray a Hollywood producer who’s also an O.S.S. veteran, while Cranston is set to play an Irish CIA agent from Boston. Goodman has been cast as Academy Award-winning makeup artist John Chambers, who helps the CIA in their mission.

Argo, which is being produced under George Clooney and Grant Hesloy’s Smokehouse banner, is set for a 2012 release. With the addition of Chandler to the already stellar cast, the drama certainly looks promising. Tell us, are you more likely to see the film now that he’s been cast?
