With Kong: Skull Island getting ready to slam into theaters and take a giant step forward in Warner Bros.’ MonsterVerse, we’re starting to learn more and more about the next film in the shared universe: Godzilla: King of Monsters.

We heard not too long ago that KrampusMichael Dougherty would be getting behind the camera with Stranger Things breakout Millie Bobby Brown snagging a lead role. Now, to make things even more exciting, we’re learning from Variety that Kyle Chandler, who’s coming off a solid turn in Manchester by the Sea, will be involved as well.

From what we understand, the actor will play Brown’s father in the sequel, which is scripted by Dougherty and Zach Shields. Unfortunately, most of the cast from Gareth Edwards’ 2014 original won’t be back, though it’s been reported that Ken Watanabe might make a return.

Nothing in the way of plot details has been revealed as of yet, so it’s hard to say how both Chandler and Brown will factor into things, but their involvement is certainly exciting and bodes well for Warner Bros.’ budding new cinematic universe. Let’s just hope we get more monster action this time around, as Edwards’ effort was criticized quite a bit for putting far too much focus on the humans, a mistake which ultimately led to it being something of a disappointment.

Godzilla: King of Monsters will roar into theaters on March 22nd, 2019. Tell us, are you pleased with how the cast is shaping up so far for the titular monster’s next outing? Let us know in the usual place.
