Kylie Minogue Joins Dwayne Johnson In San Andreas

Though Kylie Minogue is best known for her singing career, having won a Grammy Award, released 12 albums and served as a judge on the U.K. version of The Voice, she actually got her start as an actress on the soap opera Neighbors. Since then, she's dabbled in acting a few times, appearing on an episode of Doctor Who and in films like Moulin Rouge!, Jack & Diane and Holy Motors. Now, she's signed on for another supporting role, in the Dwayne Johnson-led earthquake thriller San Andreas.

Though Kylie Minogue is best known for her singing career, having won a Grammy Award, released 12 albums and served as a judge on the U.K. version of The Voice, she actually got her start as an actress on the soap opera Neighbors. Since then, she’s dabbled in acting a few times, appearing on an episode of Doctor Who and in films like Moulin Rouge!Jack & Diane and Holy Motors. Now, she’s signed on for another supporting role, in the Dwayne Johnson-led earthquake thriller San Andreas.

Minogue’s role is being kept under wraps for the time being, but the film stars Johnson as a special ops firefighter who, along with his ex-wife (Carla Gugino), makes the perilous trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco in search of their daughter (Alexandra Daddario) after the ‘Big One’ hits and utterly decimates California. Johnson’s protagonist faces threats not only from Mother Nature, but also from opportunistic looters who take advantage of the chaos.

The project is currently shooting on the Gold Coast of Australia, and Minogue is expected to fly there soon to film her role. It will be a homecoming for the singer, who was born in Austalia but lives in London. Minogue has proven that she has some strong acting abilities, so it will be interesting to see how big her part is in San Andreas.

Brad Peyton directed the blockbuster, from a script that Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore wrote and which was tweaked by Allan Loeb, Carlton Cuse and Chad and Carey Hayes.

Colton Haynes, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Todd Williams and Art Parkinson also have roles in the film, which Warner Bros. and New Line are positioning as a major summer tentpole. It will face some competition in the form of DreamWorks Animation’s B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, but San Andreas looks likely to gross big. The movie will open (in 3D of course) on June 5th, 2015.
