As we inch closer towards the launch date for Disney Plus – the company’s brand new streaming service which is looking to take on Netflix and Amazon Prime – the House of Mouse has started to give fans a better idea of what they can come to expect on November 12th.
Even though already-announced content will slowly be added to the service over the first two years, there’s plenty in store for launch day. In terms of TV shows, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (that really needs a better name) and The Mandalorian are going to be available right from the start, along with a few other docuseries, shorts and international programming that will debut in North America for the first time.
When it comes to movies, there are a few documentaries to enjoy, but most Disney fans are anxious to check out the live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp. And now, thanks to the trailer up above, we finally have our first proper look at it.
The reimagining will star Tessa Thompson (who plays Valkyrie in the MCU) and Justin Theroux (who wrote the screenplay for the oft-maligned Iron Man 2) as the titular pups, with Janelle Monae, Benedict Wong (from Doctor Strange) and Sam Elliott as some of the other dogs.
This new version seems to follow the original film pretty closely (with the iconic spaghetti smooch scene making the cut), though we’ve heard Disney is retooling the Siamese Cats, whose depiction has been criticized for racial stereotyping. Their song is also being rewritten and will be performed by Monae.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long to watch Lady and the Tramp for ourselves, as it’s set to premiere alongside Disney Plus on November 12th. Until then, be sure to check out the debut trailer above and let us know what you think of it.
