We’ve heard rumors that a good portion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to delve into Rocket’s backstory, with Mark Hamill allegedly portraying his mysterious evil creator. Now, it sounds like Cooper’s A Star is Born co-star Lady Gaga could appear as another character with very close ties to the talking mammal.

This tip comes from the Film Updates Twitter account, who have a solid track record when it comes to Marvel scoops and shared the following:

For those unfamiliar (or just need a quick refresher), Lady Lylla is a sentient otter that just so happens to be a toy-making heiress from the planet Halfworld. First introduced to comic book fans in 1982, Lylla met Rocket in the midst of the great “Toy War,” which is exactly what it sounds like. While the MCU has grounded a lot of the more fantastical elements of its comic book adaptations, we know writer-director James Gunn isn’t the type to shy away from such crazier concepts, so even an intergalactic war between toy companies doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibilities.

While I’m not here to comment on Bradley Cooper’s recent divorce or Lady Gaga’s supposed involvement in it, I am here to traverse the rumor mill and break down casting speculations, of which this kind of sounds perfect. Gaga and Cooper had such amazing chemistry in their last outing that both of them wound up with Academy Award nominations for their performances. Gaga is also a talented singer who could easily convey the hefty emotion that her character would require through her voice alone.

That being said, an appearance from Lady Gaga also reeks of the type of stunt casting Marvel tends to avoid. If she does wind up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, surely it’ll be based on her acting chops, not her personal life. I guess we’ll know for sure though when James Gunn starts production on the film sometime next year.
