Disney is busy getting a whole lot done this week. What is the biggest agenda on the plate, you ask? Evidently, the focus is on inadvertently making its fans have a change of heart, whether it is about the much-derided Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Little Mermaid — which was finally getting its time in the sun — or Anthony Mackie’s proper debut as the official Chris Evans successor in Captain America: New World Order.
On the surface, Quantumania is finally on Disney Plus, The Little Mermaid is diving headfirst into promotions, and New World Order is hopefully done adding cast members. So, what is new about these developments? Well, a lot!!
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s Disney Plus release has left fans doubting whether it was really bad
It has happened before – Eternal, which was bashed to the moon and back upon its theatrical release, ascended from “oh, it’s actually not that bad” reviews to many actually looking forward to its sequel when it joined the streamer. Marvel Studios was evidently hoping for a similar outcome for Quantumania when it released it on Disney Plus. And as expected, its streamer debut did change existing opinions about the film as even the ones who actually liked Ant-Man 3 previously are rushing to retract their support.
The Little Mermaid might have ensured that basketball fans will especially hate the film
Disney has not exactly found it a piece of cake to make The Little Mermaid a sure success. But while criticisms about its CGI have somewhat died down along with the racist backlash aimed at Halle Bailey who has made her star power a universal fact, Disney has found a new way to alienate potential fans – especially the ones that were unfortunate enough to watch the recent the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics playoff game, aka The Little Mermaid ad that left viewers itching to break something.
Anthony Mackie is leading Captain America: New World Order but fans are not sure anymore
Even since Chris Evans handed over his shield to Mackie in Endgame and Sam Wilson officially became the new Captain America in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the fandom had been eagerly looking forward to the new Cap in New World Order. Everything had been coming along nicely – the reports claimed Mackie was perfect and the actor has been nothing short of enthusiastic about getting that much overdue slice of the spotlight.
It gained further attention when it was announced that the cast will also see Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Harrison Ford as General Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/The Leader, and Shira Haas as Sabra. But for some, the hype has made space for doubts that have ultimately led to the tentative conclusion that Disney doesn’t think Mackie is capable of making the film a success on his own.
