Genre genius James Wan is back to ignite the genre with a new project
With blockbuster hits like Saw, The Conjuring, and Insidious secured in his back pocket, there’s absolutely no denying that horror auteur James Wan has proved himself as a force to be reckoned with. Flash forward several years, and Wan is back to ignite a fire within the genre — which includes an upcoming feature that will be created alongside the help of production company A24. The project in question will be based on The Backrooms — a viral short story that intensifies fears and exposes arguably one of our biggest phobias. All of this is exactly what’s needed in today’s world of horror, and James Wan is just the man to properly bring it to life.
Finn Wolfhard sets his sights on a spooky directorial debut
After becoming a worldwide superstar due to his standout performance on Netflix’s Stranger Things, actor Finn Wolfhard is ditching the fantasy scene temporarily to shift his focus to the horror genre. As a result, Wolfhard is set to mount his directorial debut with Hell of a Summer — a horror-comedy slasher extravaganza that Wolfhard will co-direct with his Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-star Billy Bryk. Very little information is known about the project at this point in time, but when you consider how talented Wolfhard is at the ripe age of just 20-years-old, slasher fans are undoubtedly in for a nice surprise.
Jason Blum haunts Exorcist fans with a thought-provoking tweet
The boss of Blumhouse has successfully created a stir within the horror community after a cryptic tweet left the fate of The Exorcist sequel up in the air. Luckily, however, it now seems fairly obvious that Blum’s tweet was a clear sign that the upcoming sequel has actually wrapped. This news has gone unconfirmed, of course, which has fueled the fire for genre diehards to wonder just what exactly is going on. But until there’s any reason to panic, fans should find comfort in knowing that the film is likely still expected to release in October, no matter what.
