“No protectors here. No Lanterns. No Kryptonian. This world will fall, like all the others.”
If Steppenwolf’s dreary threat of world domination is anything to go by, Hal Jordan won’t feature in Justice League whatsoever, leaving Batman and the rest of the gang – Superman included – to cancel the impending apocalypse on their own. But a new fan theory posted to Reddit (!) is asserting that Green Lantern will play a part in the Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon tentpole after all.
First spotted by ComicBook.com, this particular piece of speculation – and it is speculation – paints Green Lantern as a possible villain, after Justice League merch showed Hal Jardon sporting armor similar to that of Steppenwolf’s Parademons, winged minions that wage war on Earth alongside Ciaran Hinds’ ax-wielding baddie. You didn’t think Steppenwolf was prepared to take over the planet on his own now, did you?
It’s also important to stress that attempting to wean plot details from a film’s toy line is a dangerous game – remember the “mega-armored Lex Luthor” figurine that hit store shelves prior to Batman V Superman? So tread lightly. However, assuming there is some semblance of truth here, it’s possible Steppenwolf brainwashes Green Lantern to use him against the Justice League, similar to how Loki called upon the Tesseract to seize control of Clint Barton (AKA Hawkeye) in the first Avengers movie.
Justice League zooms into theaters on November 17th. Further down the pipeline, Warner Bros. has also reserved space on its slate for Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2 and Shazam, the latter of which is eyeing a production start in early 2018. Word is that an April 2019 release is on the cards, but one way or another, there’s no place for Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.
