Today sees the release of a brand new poster for the upcoming prohibition-era thriller Lawless. Directed by John Hillcoat and featuring a very talented all-star cast that boasts names like Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Guy Pierce, Jason Clarke and Mia Wasikowska, the film is starting to look like a serious awards contender.

Lawless is based on Matt Bondurant’s novel The Wettest Country in the World, which is not a belated spin-off from Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, but instead is the true story of a gang of bootlegging brothers (Hardy, LaBeouf and Clarke) and their encounters with the mob and law enforcement.

This poster doesn’t really give us much to go on, other than the fact that Shia LaBeouf seems confused and slightly angered by his shotgun. He definitely doesn’t look like a happy camper.

Speaking of LaBeouf, this is the actor’s chance to finally break away from the looming shadow of the Transformers franchise. If he succeeds with his role here, he’ll be able to shed his current image and perhaps, start moving into more serious and mature roles, roles that may even earn him awards recognition.

Check out the poster below and be sure to catch Lawless when it hits theatres on August 29th.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE POSTER HAS BEEN REMOVED AT THE STUDIO’S REQUEST
