Who is Doctor Strange? Sure, he’s a brilliant neurosurgeon; intelligent, intriguing and arrogant to the core, but in the latest featurette for Scott Derrickson’s upcoming standalone pic, Marvel Studios dives a little deeper into the mindset of the Sorcerer Supreme and the actor on board to bring him to life, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Left circling the jaws of death after a brutal car accident, Doctor Strange opens with Cumberbatch’s at his lowest, having wasted his fortunes on countless operations in a last-ditch attempt to restore feeling to his hands – the money-makers, if you will – to no avail. And so, Stephen Strange heads east, deep into the bowels of Nepal to discover that his reality, one where his medical career has been left in tatters, is actually one of many. Cue the mind-bending spectacle.

Though there isn’t much new footage to pour over, getting some insight into Cumberbatch’s approach to the role will surely pique the curiosity of ardent fans. What’s more, it isn’t long now until the theatrical release of Doctor Strange, meaning we ought to get at least one more trailer before Derrickson invites moviegoers into the Sanctum Sanctorum – and beyond.

Tilda Swinton and Benedict Cumberbatch headline a cast that’s comprised of Spotlight star Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amy Landecker, Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benedict Wong, and Mads Mikklesen. Marvel will conjure Doctor Strange into theaters in time for November 4.
