Latest Marvel News: As the MCU costs Disney $100 million out of nowhere, Brie Larson may jump ship to save a slumbering Sony franchise

Although don't say goodbye to Captain Marvel just yet.

Brie Larson arguably hasn’t been treated all that well by the Marvel fandom, to put it lightly, so it’s no surprise that we’re hearing she may be jumping ship to Sony to do her bit to wake up a franchise they’ve been trying to relaunch for years. Although, with any luck, she’ll juggle her duties as Carol Danvers with this potential new gig. Elsewhere, Disney suffers even more financial loss after the fact as an upcoming Disney Plus series finds a fresh MCU star on TikTok.

Despite what the haters may want, Brie Larson remains one of the most in-demand stars in Hollywood, as seen by the latest rumors pointing to her expanding outside of her MCU commitments to potentially help relaunch a dormant franchise for Sony. As per new intel, Larson could be starring in a female-led relaunch of the 21 Jump Street movie series — for those who don’t remember, she previously appeared in the 2012 movie, which was based on the TV show of the same name that began in 1987 (two years before Larson was even born). This is far from confirmed for now, though, so watch this space for more.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cost the Mouse House $100 million more than previously disclosed

Whatever the opposite of a banner year is, that’s what 2023 is turning out to be for Disney, what with so many box office losses on the trot. That means the Mouse House is probably glad Doctor Strange 2 didn’t come out this year as it turns out that the Benedict Cumberbatch sequel was actually a whole lot more expensive to make than we previously realized. A new deep-dive into the film’s financial situation reveals that its budget was not the previously stated $200 million but over $300 million, which makes sense considering all the A-list cameos that director Sam Raimi squeezed into his CGI-filled Marvel-fest.

An upcoming Disney Plus series dumping in one go turns to TikTok to inject some fresh blood amid a torrent of bad buzz

Echo isn’t exactly enjoying the most positive wave of pre-release hype ahead of its streaming arrival on Disney Plus this November. On top of talk of it being stripped of one of its episodes — amid the news that it’s going to be dumped in lump instead of released weekly — rumors claim it was at risk of being “Batgirl-ed.” It might be a smart move on Marvel’s part, then, to turn to TikTok to inject some fresh blood into its cast, according to the latest casting info. Let’s not write the Alaqua Cox vehicle off just yet, but the Marvel fandom echo chamber could stand to be a little more positive about it.

An MCU veteran yet to appear in live-action is teasing their grand movie debut, so you know you don’t want to go anywhere lest you miss the latest Marvel news around.
