How are we all doing today, X-Men fans? Have we drifted down from cloud nine yet?
Yes, the Marvel news sphere has no doubt been dominated today by the reveal of Hugh Jackman dressed in Wolverine‘s classic yellow and blue suit. It’s no biggie, it’s not like some of us have been dreaming of this moment for the past, ooh, quarter of a century or anything. And yet maybe this all-important Deadpool 3 set pic unveils an even bigger takeaway about the Fox-friendly threequel…
Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool 3 suit reveal may add a whole new meaning to those Doctor Strange 2 comparisons
Ever since all those cameo rumors started popping up, Deadpool 3 has been touted as being the movie Doctor Strange 2 promised to be, but maybe that’s truer than we even realized. The mere sight of Jackman in the comic book costume come to life is a dream come true because Fox’s Logan was famously never the sort to wear, as Cyclops so memorably dubbed it in the original X-Men movie, “yellow spandex.” So maybe there’s something very significant about the method of Wolverine’s comeback in DP3 that we can glean from this sneak peek.
Captain Marvel forced a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rewrite in one small but key way
Captain Marvel shared some DNA with Guardians of the Galaxy, thanks to the inclusion of both Ronan and Korath, but The Marvels promises to be pretty separate from Vol. 3. Nevertheless, James Gunn reveals something interesting on the audio commentary for Guardians 3‘s VOD release (more on that in a moment). He confirms that the adorable Furry F’Saki Blurp was originally a cat, before Goose from Brie Larson’s MCU debut meant he had to switch things up. As Gunn explained:
“That’s what Blurp originally was but… Captain Marvel came out, which had a cat in that movie that has a big role, and I know has a role in the upcoming Marvels film. And so I had to change Blurp to something besides a cat because it seemed too repetitive.”
Looks like we can expect more from Goose in the sequel, Flerken fans!
The Flash falling out of the box office charts makes clear that James Gunn might have bet on the wrong horse
Sticking with the topic of Guardians 3‘s digital release, it could not be going down better with fans, as the chance to see it from the comfort of their own couch is only increasing everyone’s appreciation of what some are even calling the MCU’s best ever movie. All this continued acclaim is a little awkward, though, as it’s coming the same weekend as The Flash totally bottoms out of the box office charts after just four weeks. Clearly, James Gunn maybe should’ve called his own film one of the best superhero films of all time rather than the Scarlet Speedster’s sorry excuse for a franchise-starter.
As Avengers: Secret Wars fan art brings fantasies to life four years early, don’t go anywhere lest you miss the next long-held wishes the Marvel genies grant us next.
