The first five minutes of Secret Invasion have been released, and they look suitably epic, but some well-intentioned if overly familiar words from someone who helped bring the show to life have nevertheless dented the hype for the incoming Samuel L. Jackson vehicle somewhat. Elsewhere, one of the many MCU Phase Five productions affected by the writers strike may already be back on the right track as Disney Plus offers us a moving first look at the next Marvel Studios production to hit streaming.

What’s something we hear time and time again when a new Marvel Studios series is about to drop? That it’s not just a TV show but an extended movie. At this point, it’s inevitable that someone involved in the latest MCU Disney Plus production will drop that dreaded phrase while promoting the thing and, sure enough, Secret Invasion has just been called “a six-hour movie unto itself” by director Ali Selim, proving that Marvel continues to misunderstand that television isn’t the dirty word the studio seems to think it is. Remember when WandaVision celebrated the fact it was a TV show? Maybe do more of that, Marvel.

Griping aside, today actually delivered some exciting news for those amped up for the future of Phase Five, as Thunderbolts seems to have become the first Marvel movie held up by the writers’ strike to avoid being stuck in limbo. Specifically, the movie has been confirmed by exec producer Brian Chapek to start shooting in Utah this summer, after it was previously reported to have been put on indefinite hiatus until the WGA strike concluded. So the fate of the MCU’s next summer tentpole looks to be secured. Well, assuming they got the troubled script sorted while they could.

Ahead of Secret Invasion arriving on Disney Plus on June 21, Marvel Studios is offering up another production a week sooner (on June 16) in the form of the simply titled documentary Stan Lee, which will naturally offer a moving and eye-opening look at the one-of-a-kind Marvel creator as we’ve never seen him before. And I mean that very literally — the just-revealed trailer features a clip from Lee’s early days as Marvel chief in which he’s not sporting his signature mustache! We can no doubt count on this documentary to remind us of the wisdom of Lee’s sensational Spider-Man 3 cameo.

Although Marvel fans are apparently still struggling to comprehend the idea that Scarlet Witch is stronger than Thanos, it won’t be an infinity before more of the latest MCU updates arrive on your doorstep. To quote the great Stan Lee, ’nuff said.
