To say Taika Waititi’s reputation has taken a nosedive among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans since the release of Thor: Love and Thunder would be selling it short, but he should get a round of applause for lending an assist to James Gunn.
The pair have similar comedic stylings, but it was a creative call that avoided the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director from being backed against the wall when it came to writing the script. Meanwhile, the project that has the potential to rival She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in the self-awareness stakes is officially underway, so it’s all systems go for the franchise as always.
Taika Waititi does James Gunn a solid for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

James Gunn recently revealed that he had no idea Thor had joined up with the Guardians of the Galaxy until he saw Avengers: Endgame for the first time, leaving him worried about how he was planning to handle the absence of the Odinson in Vol. 3 given that he never had any plans to use him.
As it turns out, Taika Waititi splitting the Asgardians of the Galaxy after the first act of Love and Thunder did Gunn a massive favor, allowing him free rein to craft the story he wanted from the ground up without having to worry about such pesky things as canon.
Cameras are rolling on Wonder Man as the MCU goes full-blown Hollywood

Marvel fatigue is beginning to seem like a very real thing, but Disney Plus series Wonder Man still packs the potential to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen from the franchise before, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Simon Williams being a superhero who moonlights as a movie star.
Thanks to a social media post from executive producer and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton, it looks as though shooting is now underway, and with Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery confirmed for a major role, there’s bound to be plenty of celebrity silliness.
Avengers: Endgame may have changed James Gunn’s mind on taking over at DC

Despite famously (at least in retrospect) saying that he’d never want to be in charge of either Marvel and DC, James Gunn ended up going back on his word after being named co-CEO of the latter.
Perhaps his experience of being left out of the loop on Avengers: Endgame helped him change his mind, seeing as he’s now got the power to overrule any creative decisions with nobody to answer to beyond Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav, giving him free reign over the company’s creative direction.
That’s it for another day of all things Marvel, but be sure to check back tomorrow for some brand new goodies.
