Confirmed to be part of the ensemble late last year, Laurence Fishburne has shed light on his “really cool” part in John Wick 2, which will have him reunite with his The Matrix co-star and friend, Keanu Reeves.
Speaking to Collider in anticipation of the imminent Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Fishburne admitted he was a major fan of the cult 2014 sleeper hit, before attempting to engineer a way to feature opposite Reeves in the Chad Stahelski-directed action sequel.
To begin, the outlet quizzed Fishburne about how that cameo appearance came to be.
Yeah, Keanu and I have remained friends and we saw each other and I told him I watched the movie and loved it. He was about to start the movie again and I was like, “Yo, man, you gotta talk to Chad and tell him that your boy Fish wants to come get down,” because I really wanted to be a part of it. They found something for me to do, and it was really cool.
And though he didn’t unveil too much, the actor went on to speak about the core premise underpinning John Wick 2, including how he may be a part of the seedy underworld that largely remained in the shadows during the 2014 flick.
I’m not part of the Continental world, no, but I’m a part of another world that exists inside the world of John Wick. That wasn’t something that was clear in the first movie. It’s like a part of his world that exists but you wouldn’t know about it, and it won’t really be revealed until the second movie.
When it comes to how John Wick 2 is shaping up, Fishburne teased that “it’s fantastic. It’s very cool. It picks up where it left off and it’s one of those instances where the right actor in the right role and the whole thing. It’s really great.” Rubbing shoulders with Fishburne on set of the sequel are Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Common, Ruby Rose, and Peter Stormare.
Before John Wick 2 is dragged kicking and screaming into theaters, Fishburne can next be seen as Perry White in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice later this week.
