Thought you could pull off an entire day without coming across any Star Wars news? Think again, as tonight we’re here to tell you that although Michael Arndt is already set to pen Star Wars: Episode VII, Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg may pen the next two films, Episode VIII and IX (or episode 8 and 9 for those who don’t know their Roman numerals).

For those who don’t know, Kasdan penned Star Wars: Episode VI and Star Wars: Episode V and Kinberg, while he may have no experience in Lucas’ sci-fi universe, he does have franchise experience with credits on Sherlock Holmes and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Both individuals are talented writers who would fit well within the Star Wars world. That being said, it begs the question, why is Disney already looking for new writers? Why not entertain the idea of having Arndt pen all three films? If they are confident enough in him to write Episode VII, why not just have him work on VIII and XI as well?

Whatever the reason may be, if Disney does go through with Kinberg and Kasdan, it means that all three films in the new trilogy will have strong scripts. But then again, no one really seems to be worried about the scripts. The big question on everyone’s mind is, of course, who will direct.

And while the studio has been spilling all the details we can ask for on writers, very little has been said about directors. Every day a new rumor pops up but thus far, nothing has been confirmed. And as fans wait with baited breath to hear who will be at the helm of their beloved franchise, all we can do is speculate.

Every director under the sun has already denied their involvement in the franchise and although we do believe them, it leaves very few candidates left. Big names like Spielberg, Snyder, Tarantino, del Toro, Abrams and more have all expressed disinterest in taking on the new trilogy, so we have to wonder, who does Disney have their eye on? That, my friends, is the million dollar question.

What do you think? Would you like to see Kinberg and Kasdan pen the next two Star Wars films after Arndt? And who do you want to see direct? Let us know in the comments below.
