After a lengthy stint on pause, production on cannibal western Bone Tomahawk is moving forward. Just last week the long-gestating directorial debut of S. Craig Zahler added three new names to its call sheet, as Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins and Matthew Fox all signed onto the Calibre Media project. Now we can reveal that another handful of actors have come aboard.

Lili Simmons (True Detective), Scream veteran David Arquette, Sean Young (Blade Runner), Sid Haig (The Devil’s Rejects), Evan Jonigkeit (Girls) and Kathryn Morris (Cold Case) have all joined the movie. The story revolves around four men who venture out into the wilderness to rescue a bunch of captives being held by a tribe of nomadic cannibals. Leading the group will be Kurt Russell as chief law enforcer, Sheriff Hunt.

Simmons is set to take on the female lead as Samantha O’Dwyer, the de facto doctor of Bright Hope and the dedicated wife to Patrick Wilson’s Arthur O’Dwyer. He is described as a “thoughtful cowboy whose rise to the foreman position of a cattle outfit is interrupted by an unfortunate accident that reshapes his life in unforeseen ways.” With Simmons casting we can definitely rule out the return of Jennifer Carpenter, who was attached to co-star years previously.

Arquette and Haig will “play a couple of filthy brigands whose actions set off a string of violent repercussions.” Morris will play the wife to Kurt Russell’s “Sheriff Hunt” and Jonigkeit will play a young deputy sheriff.

There’s a sense that this could be a corking spot of genre fare. With such a varied cast from TV and film it’ll be a treat to see how Bone Tomahawk will pan out.
