Yesterday brought the news that Robert Pattinson is primed to become the next Batman, as he’s reportedly director Matt Reeves’ top choice to play Bruce Wayne in the character’s upcoming standalone film. DC fans have been freaking out over the left-field casting ever since, with some even signing a petition calling for him to be replaced (never mind the fact that he hasn’t officially been cast yet).
It turns out the 33-year-old actor has already given us a taste of his take on the iconic Batman growl, though, in an unlikely place… the commentary track for Twilight: Eclipse. While joking about a scene where his character Edward Cullen sneaks up on Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swann, Pattison delivers a brief Dark Knight impression.

Obviously, this doesn’t give us much to go on in terms of how Pattison will actually approach portraying the Caped Crusader, but it does tell us that he’s had Batman on the brain for years now. We bet the actor wouldn’t have dreamed that he’d be potentially playing the Caped Crusader just nine years after recording this commentary, though.
The role isn’t Pattinson’s just yet, however. Following Variety’s initial report about his hiring, both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter broke additional stories that clarified it’s not a done deal at this time. Pattison sits at the top of the shortlist, though, with Nicholas Hoult, Armie Hammer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson said to be the runner-ups. It’s also interesting to note that three of the four are England natives – is Reeves hoping to recreate the magic of Nolan’s trilogy by hiring another Brit like Christian Bale?
Time will tell, but as we await concrete news on who Reeves has picked to be his Batman, let us know whether you’re up for “Battinson” or whether you want one of the other actors in the running to claim the role by leaving a comment down below.
