When it was finally confirmed that a live-action Pokemon movie is on the way, fans of the franchise were understandably ecstatic. That excitement died down a little when it was revealed that Legendary Pictures is actually working on Detective Pikachu, but on the plus side, the movie may very well have now found an impressive writing team.

According to Variety, Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch are being paired up to write the long overdue live-action take on the Pokemon franchise, which recently returned to the public eye thanks to the massive success of the Pokemon Go mobile game.

Perlman is best known for working in Marvel’s writers’ room where she contributed to early drafts of Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor before recently being hired to pen Captain Marvel alongside Meg LeFauve (Inside Out). She’s also working on the third Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Hirsch meanwhile is best known for working on popular Disney XD animated series Gravity Falls.

It’s still early days for Detective Pikachu, but should it succeed when it’s finally released, chances are that we could end up seeing the Pokemon movie most fans want become a reality (an adaptation of the animated series or classic video games). We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s definitely a good time to want to catch ’em all…
