As we all eagerly await that long overdue second trailer for Logan, the film’s director, James Mangold, has shared three new portraits of our principal protagonists to his Twitter account. The images provide us with fresh looks at the elderly Professor Charles Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart), Laura/X-23 (Dafne Keen), and the iconic mutant badass of the title, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman).

As the recently released synopsis clarifies, the story is going to focus on a world-weary Logan, who finds himself looking after an even more broken down Professor X, whose extremely powerful mind has begun to fail him. These pics of the duo certainly reflect how jaded the characters have become, and hammer home the bleakness that was established in the teaser trailer. However, these old soldiers will be given a reason to keep on fighting when a young mutant named Laura (who has all but been confirmed as Wolverine’s clone, X-23) comes to them in need of help.

20th Century Fox screened the first 40 minutes of Logan for a few lucky critics and bloggers last month, and the overwhelmingly positive reactions to the film’s first act is the main reason we’re all chomping at the bit to see some more ahead of its March release. Before that, though, the movie will receive its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival next month, so we should have more detailed reports on the final solo Wolverine flick in its entirety soon enough.

Aside from Jackman, Keen and Stewart, Logan also stars Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez, among others.
