Just yesterday we had confirmation that Gore Verbinski’s Lone Ranger was a go, with a February 6th, 2012 start date for production. Today, THR has announced that the film will be released on May 31st, 2013, which makes sense as it’s set 3 months later than the original release date of December 21st, 2012 (the production got pushed three months as well).
Honestly, it’s a little surprising that Disney didn’t hold the film until July, to capitalize on the mid summer numbers. That being said, films like Fast Five have shown that Spring can still pull in the big numbers.
Regardless of the release date, it’s good to know that we’ll finally see the film, which is a relief considering the production hell that it has gone through up until this point.
Lone Ranger will be directed by Gore Verbinski and will star Johnny Depp, Amie Hammer and Ruth Wilson.
