While there’s still no word on who will take the role next, our sources – the same ones who told us Ewan McGregor would be returning as Obi-Wan, and The Matrix 4 will feature a young Morpheus, both of which have now been confirmed – say that Jared Harris is currently one of several actors on Warner Bros.’ wish list to to portray Bruce Wayne’s butler.

The 57-year-old may seem a little young for some to take on the part, but many feel the same way about Pattinson. Harris definitely has an impressive résumé though and could easily play Alfred if given the chance. For years, he wowed audiences with his performance in Mad Men, ultimately earning himself a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2012. Recently, he’s garnered universal praise for his starring role in the critically-acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl, for which he’s secured his second Emmy nod.

Additionally, Harris has played significant supporting roles in Mr. Deeds, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Lincoln, Allied and many more. He has also has plenty more television credits to his name, proving that he’s as hardworking as he is versatile. Even fans who don’t like any of those aforementioned shows or movies can likely recognize the actor from at least one of his many roles over the years.

Nothing is set in stone as of yet, of course, but it’s clear that Harris would be a welcome addition to this developing cast. And given his age, he can play Alfred for years to come if the first movie does as well as DC is hoping.

In any case, we should find out soon enough who takes the role, as The Batman is expected to soar into theaters on June 25th, 2021.
