After years of fans calling for the Daywalker to debut in the MCU, Marvel finally granted our wishes over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. To conclude their monumentally-exciting panel about what’s coming in Phase 4, a new Blade movie was announced to be in development for Phase 5 – with Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali set to play the vampire hunter.
Obviously, everyone’s been going wild with excitement over the thought of seeing Ali suit up as the cult hero. Wesley Snipes, of course, played Blade in the late-90s/early-00s trilogy and will be tough to replace, but most can agree that the Green Book star is the perfect choice to bring the character into the MCU.
In case you needed more convincing though, we now have some incredible artwork courtesy of Reddit user iMizurii which gives us a pretty good idea of how the actor may appear when he shows up in the role. And we’ve gotta say, he looks awesome.

Unfortunately, we don’t know a whole lot about what Marvel’s got planned for the project just yet, aside from the fact that the story was pitched by Mahershala Ali himself. We imagine it’ll dive into a vampiric underworld, too, which we’ve yet to see in a Marvel Studios film, but whether or not the studio will go for the R-rating remains to be seen.
We’re hopeful that they will, of course, but no matter which direction Kevin Feige and co. head in, snagging an actor like Ali is certainly a strong first step and with any luck, with a star now set, we’ll soon learn more about who’ll be joining him on screen and which filmmaker will step behind the camera to finally bring Blade into the MCU.
