Mahershala Ali Pays Tribute To Wesley Snipes’ Role As Blade

Days after the official casting announcement, Mahershala Ali took to Instagram to pay tribute to Wesley Snipes' work as Blade.

While the franchise has been lying dormant for quite some time, it looks like everyone’s favorite vampire slayer is set to come back in a big way. In a recent announcement made at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel revealed they are working on a Blade reboot that would be set within the MCU. Details are scarce at the moment though, as it’s not entirely clear as to who’s directing, writing, or producing the film, and the only thing we know for sure is Mahershala Ali (of Green Book and Moonlight) will be playing the role of the titular vampire hunter.

As you can imagine, reactions have been all over the place. Unsurprisingly, a lot of fans were blown away by the announcement. After all, while Mahershala has had some experience in more action-focused roles, he’s largely garnered critical acclaim from his work on drama films, having racked up two Academy Awards in three years.

As a result, many people were surprised by the casting decision. Others, however, are a little sad that Wesley Snipes won’t be making a return, and some have even taken it upon themselves to see if Marvel would consider giving him a role in the upcoming reboot.

While Mahershala Ali doesn’t have an enormous presence on social media, he does have a verified Instagram account, and earlier today, he took to the platform to share a picture of Snipes in character, tagging the actor and putting both a crown and crossed swords emoji in the caption. It seems like Ali is paying tribute to his predecessor, and fans can’t get enough of the post, which has already racked up over 75,000 likes.

Of course, we’re pretty excited for the Blade reboot, and while we think Mahershala Ali will do a great job, we wouldn’t mind if Wesley Snipes made a cameo of some sort – after all, small nods and winks like this have become a staple in the MCU.

What do you think though? Should Marvel pay tribute to the legendary actor by giving him a role? Let us know in the comments section below!
