Last week we brought you the news that Mad Max: Fury Road helmer George Miller was Warner Bros’ top choice to direct Man of Steel 2, an unconfirmed yet expected sequel to the 2013 superhero flick. But don’t get used to the idea of Miller putting his veritable talents to the world of Krypton’s golden boy. Another report, this time from Den of Geek, suggests that Miller’s attachment to the Superman sequel isn’t certain — because the movie’s development is still on shaky ground.

First things first, Miller has met with the studio to discuss helming a future project. This much is true. But that’s as far as things have gone between the two parties, as one of the site’s sources underlines: “What Miller directs will depend on what story most interests him, his take on it and everyone’s availability.” That story could of course be the Man of Steel sequel but another insider stresses that development remains on “permanent hold.”

Could this mean that a second outing for Henry Cavill’s do-gooder alien is completely off the table? Bearing in mind that the studio opted to chase up Man of Steel with a brand new entity – Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice – we may already know the answer to that. While MoS took in a decent haul at the box office, it failed to secure the types of critical acclaim awarded to Warner’s rival: Marvel.

Of course, after the recent studio screenings of Batman V Superman, it’s believed that Warner is enthusiastic to push an entire trilogy of films based on Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight. And with Man Of Steel 2 not yet an official part of the studio’s forthcoming slate anyway, it’s looking more likely that the pioneering Miller might take command of The Batman.
