The above sentiment is fueling some discourse on the official Reddit section for Marvel Studios as of this story’s filing. The post’s initiator first says he cannot believe Adam Driver was picked for the role before acknowledging it has not yet been confirmed. In replies, some say characteristics of a fictional being are superficial to a broader production and another says Driver would do well.

Historically, fans complaining about who gets to be iconic heroes in this decades-old genre has always been a thing which eventually gets shut up when a final project comes out. People did not love the idea of Michael Keaton playing Batman before the 1989 release, weirdos nitpicked Gal Gadot’s body when she got the Wonder Woman role and, as another critic of the original poster points out, if physical characteristics like race are not essential to a character, it should not matter if Ben Grimm (who, we will remind readers, is mainly an orange rock man) is possibly portrayed by the Jewish and Black entertainer Daveed Diggs.
