Just take this new tweet from Mark Hamill for example, who has a special message for all his followers:

Hamill is set to reprise his role as Luke in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Another star that you can expect to see return – albeit under a thick layer of Wookiee fur – is Joonas Soutamo, who shared a Calvin and Hobbes-style cartoon on Thursday that features one of the saga’s most cherished double acts:

Shortly after Soutamo shared this tweet, the sad news broke that original Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew had passed away, meaning that the recent May the 4th festivity has coincided with a flood of tributes to the late performer.

Naturally, the official Star Wars Twitter account has also tweeted a few May the 4th messages, encouraging fans to share their GIFs and artwork:

As the day progresses, the stream of Star Wars Day messages shows no sign of slowing down, with everyone from William Shatner to the Flex Seal guy giving the holiday a shout out:

Right now, we’re in the midst of the busiest year to date for the Star Wars franchise. Among the biggest projects on the horizon is the property’s first live-action TV show, The Mandalorian, which premieres on Disney Plus on November 12th. After that, the Sequel Trilogy finally comes to a close with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20th.
