Mark Ruffalo Says Avengers: Infinity War Is Funny, Moving And Epic

Even though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is certainly nothing new at this point, we still have much to look forward to over the next couple of years. Not only will we be treated to the studio’s first film to be headlined by a woman in the form of Captain Marvel, but we also have Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel on the horizon, which’ll serve as a finale of sorts to the sprawling story that began with the first Iron Man flick all the way back in 2008.

That being said, devout True Believers and general moviegoers alike are no doubt pondering what awaits in those blockbuster team-ups, regardless of whether or not Marvel Studios opts to do any more of them. We do know that Thanos will finally put his grand plan into action, and that pretty much every hero under the sun – and from around the cosmos – will have to unite in order to combat this threat unlike any other. But aside from that, details are scarce.

In a recent conversation with Collider though, fan favorite actor Mark Ruffalo spoke about the massive undertaking he’s been involved in, simultaneously doing some guerrilla promotion of his own and just plain marveling (pun intended) at the enormity of the experience:

“It’s crazy. And it’s huge. And everyone’s in it. And it’s like this epic opera that spans time and space, with all of the Marvel characters in it. All nine franchises. I mean, it’s mind-boggling. Everyone has their moment to shine. Everyone is still their characters. Nobody feels like they’re doing any kind of exposition or having to push the story. It’s so well crafted. [Writers Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely smashed the script. And it has it all: it’s funny, moving… it’s epic. It’s a Russo brothers classic, like, balls to the wall, you know? It’s gonna be amazing. They’re so talented, and they’re great guys too.”

Given what’s been said by his co-stars to this point, that sounds about right. All I ask is that the humor not be too over the top as it has been in some other Marvel films. Then again, the Russo Brothers have been among my favorite directors to be employed by the studio, so I’m sure they’ll find the right balance.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 4, 2018.
