Mark Ruffalo is the third actor to play the Hulk in the last decade, but his performance in The Avengers has become a fan favorite, giving him a leg up on both Eric Bana and Edward Norton as the best actor to portray the character. Those fervent fans of Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner have been calling for a standalone film, but Ruffalo says there are no plans for any such film, at least right now. However, he did say that he’s still holding out hope for a solo film.

Check out Ruffalo’s tweets below.

I didn’t think there was any possibility of this film happening before The Avengers 2, so I’m not really sure why Ruffalo felt the need to address that. Marvel’s calendar isn’t any big secret, so the only chance of this film happening was clearly going to be in Phase 3 or beyond.

In my opinion, Ruffalo was definitely the best Bruce Banner of the three, and his performance was easily the highlight of The Avengers. I’d love to see him get a shot at a standalone film where he doesn’t have to share screen time with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. The Hulk is a character with so much potential, and a ton of story lines that would all make for excellent films.

I like that Ruffalo says he’s holding out hope. If the film is going to happen, he needs to be the only playing the angry green giant. That being said, as interested as I am in seeing a Hulk film, I’d almost rather see some other characters from the Marvel universe get their own film. We’ve seen Hulk multiple times, and there are a ton of great characters that deserve a big screen appearance.

What do you think of Ruffalo’s hope for a Hulk movie? Is that something you want to see or would you rather see other Marvel films? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
