Marvel Has Big Plans For The Black Knight In The MCU

Avengers: Endgame might be wrapping up the past decade of the MCU, but we all know the franchise won't be stopping there. Starting in 2020, a new phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will begin and some of the new heroes set to inject some fresh energy into the proceedings include the Eternals, Shang-Chi and, if our information's correct, the Black Knight.

We Got This Covered has been told that Marvel has big plans for the legacy hero known as the Black Knight. He’s apparently been discussed quite a lot behind the scenes as the studio thinks he has a ton of potential. Particularly as a member of the rebooted team of New Avengers and the star of his own solo movie, and maybe even his own trilogy.

Black Knight has long been rumored for the MCU, with a brief shot of a strange city in the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp said to point to his imminent arrival. Marvel’s choice of classic comics to be reprinted this April to tie in with Endgame is also curious, as Black Knight features in three of them, meaning the studio is looking to give him a bit of a push into the spotlight.

So, who is the Black Knight? Well, the one coming to the MCU is likely Dane Whitman, who’s actually the third Black Knight – the nephew of supervillain Nathan Garrett and the descendant of the original heroic medieval knight, Sir Percy of Scandia. With his mystical sword, he was a regular on the Avengers’ roster in the 80s and the 90s. Interestingly, he once had a romance with the Eternal Sersi – that’s Angelina Jolie in the MCU – so that could be something that’s explored on screen, too.

Tell us, though, who would you like to see play the character if he does indeed make his way into the MCU? Sound off in the usual place below.
