With D23 now in full swing, the floodgates on all things Marvel are starting to open up, and earlier today, those in attendance got their first look at Captain America: Civil War along with a few new details on what to expect from Doctor Strange.

Kicking off with the Sorcerer Supreme, the studio promised that the movie would “push the boundaries” of their cinematic universe and teased that we would see “girls, cars, explosions and astral projection.” Since filming doesn’t get underway until November, no footage was shown. Instead, the audience got a bit of early concept art, which apparently featured the following:

Strange going to the far east, then being transported to, as promised, multiple dimensions. Cars flying through the air in the city, Baron Mordo fighting him, and the full on red caped look straight out of the comics. He’s doing magic, pulling mighty magical chains, and no joke, that look was RIGHT out of the comics. Even a quick 1-second CGI shot of Strange shooting magic bolts capped it all off. Huge reaction from the crowd.

Then, things transitioned into what was undoubtedly the main event, as Anthony Mackie and Chris Evans came on stage to introduce the first trailer for Captain America: Civil Warwhich was described by Deadline as follows:

“Right out the gate we get an amazing battle and the reveal of Crossbones (Frank Grillo). Then a dive into the conflict between Tony Stark and Captain America that motivates the plot. Particularly Stark making the point that “Without boundaries we’re no better than them.” The best moment was at the end though, when we see Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang brought into Captain America’s faction, and he goes completely starstruck. “I know you know a lot of super… people, so I wanted to say thinks for thanking of me. Thanks for thinking of me.”

Another description of the footage comes from Reddit, where one user wrote:

“Eyes on Target folks.” Falcon launched Redwing – it’s robotic, and he can look through it! It’s Cap, Falcon, and Black Widow going after a bomber – Crossbones! Cap and Crossbones engage, while Falcon, with a massively upgraded suit, and Black Widow take out his thugs. “This is for dropping a building on my face,” Crossbones says to Cap. “You know, he remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky.”

Cap says, “We try to save as many as we can, but sometimes that doesn’t mean everyone.” The follow-up to the scene from Ant-Man’s credits was shown, and Bucky recognizes Steve. “I know we’re not perfect, but the safest hands are still ours,” he says. “If we have no limitations, we’re no better than the bad guys,” Iron Man says.

Black Panther revealed! The only actual fight was between Black Widow and Hawkeye, but the others were shown charging at each other..

After, they showed Ant-Man being brought in. “Captain America! It’s an honor. I’m shaking your hand too long. You’re really great. I know you know a lot of super people, so thinks for thanking of me. Thanks for thinking of me.”
