Marvel Fans Can’t Wait For Cap To Get His Shield Back In Avengers: Endgame

This week's Avengers: Endgame trailer delivered a lot of moments that we've been waiting to see which reduced fans to emotional/excitable wrecks (delete as applicable). In case you missed it, Tony and Pepper reunited, Cap and Iron Man buried the hatchet and Thanos re-emerged as the Big Three marched to face him. Clearly, the movie's not going to skimp on awesome scenes that'll please the MCU faithful.

One brief shot in the trailer even gave us our first glimpse of Steve Rogers with his classic shield in hand again. Cap hasn’t sported his favorite weapon since he abandoned it at the end of Captain America: Civil WarAnd though Black Panther kindly gave this man a shield in Avengers: Infinity War, the hi-tech Wakandan accessory just wasn’t as cool as the ol’ red, white and blue model. Thankfully, then, the real deal’s coming back in Endgame, and fans couldn’t be happier about it.

Some are even already theorizing about how Cap gets his shield back. One eagle-eyed viewer noticed that it no longer has the scratch on it from Civil War in the Endgame trailer. A sign that this is actually a replacement shield created by Tony – as hinted at in Spider-Man: Homecoming – or a tease of time travel to come?

Whatever the actual method of how Cap gets his shield returned to him in Endgame, symbolically it represents him embracing his role as Captain America again after living low as a Secret Avenger for the past couple of years. Neither Iron Man or Steve is proud of their conflict over the Sokovia Accords and the trailer teased that the two heroes will be able to put all that behind them. So at least some good comes of what Thanos has done.

Does Tony supply Steve with his shield, though? Or does it reappear through time travel means? We’ll find out when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
