Marvel Fans Are Freaking Out Over Chris Evans’ Reaction To Avengers: Endgame

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Evans claimed to have seen the first hour of Avengers: Endgame, before adding that he “choked up like three times” watching next month’s release. When the interviewer asked if this was because Captain America dies in the movie, the actor responded with a series of jokes about his character’s demise, explaining that it was hard seeing his own death, before adding that his funeral takes up an hour of the film’s three-hour runtime.

While the internet has been joking about Cap’s possible demise for much of this past year, some fans were crushed to see the actor himself kid around about the subject, and took to Twitter to voice their anguish:

At the same time, some fans are trying to second-guess Evans, reading into his jokes as a possible sign that there’s still hope yet for The First Avenger:

Others, meanwhile, were more concerned with Evans’ claim that he repeatedly choked up watching. After all, if the actor’s own movie left him in tears, then what chance do the fans have?

These days, Captain America is probably the hero who’s most widely predicted to meet a sad end in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, though he certainly isn’t the only one that fans have good reason to be worried about. Steve Rogers’ Phase 1 peers Iron Man and Thor, for instance, have both been in this saga even longer than he has, and look set to bow out after this next movie.

We’ll find out who gets to settle down for a peaceful retirement and who makes the sacrifice play when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
