The 76th Golden Globe Awards really belonged to Bohemian Rhapsody, much to the chagrin of Marvel fans the world over.
Fox and Dexter Flecther’s music-powered biopic took home the top prize for Best Motion Picture Drama, beating out such heavy-hitters as BlacKKKlansman, If Beale Street Could Talk, A Star is Born and Marvel’s standalone Black Panther movie, which ended up with zero wins despite being nominated for three awards – Best Original Score and Best Original Song being the other two.
And now that the dust has somewhat settled from last night’s ceremony, a vocal corner of the Internet is up in arms over Black Panther‘s Golden Globes snub on the belief that Marvel’s Afrocentric epic really should have trumped a movie that currently sits at 62 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Here’s a small cross-section of the furore, courtesy of ComicBook.com:

Bohemian Rhapsody Won Over A Star Is Born And Black Panther? Over 2 Best Movies? Are You Serious? This Is A Damn Joke #GoldenGlobes

Black Panther got robbed you mean . The most popular movie of the year and easily made more money than all the other nominees combined . Sad when biased people snub an obvious blockbuster like Black Panther .

Since Bohemian Rhapsody can win #GoldenGlobes Best Picture then Black Panther win the same category at Oscars should be possible

Take nothing away from Bohemian Rhapsody, of course; between the Queen music and Rami Malek’s inspired performance as Freddie Mercury, there’s a lot to be said about Fox’s biopic, which was undoubtedly a worthy contender for this coveted prize.
Still, there are those who believe Black Panther really deserved the win, as Ryan Coogler’s standalone superhero movie broke new ground for the genre, while also scoring rave reviews across the board. Bohemian Rhapsody, by comparison, struggled to impress the critics, though still managed to pull in an eye-watering $743 million at the worldwide box office. To put that cume into perspective, that official tally is now higher than that of Deadpool 2, which is an impressive feat in and of itself, given how popular the Merc With a Mouth has been these past few years.
And as for Black Panther? Well, there’s always the Oscars…
