It’s a great day for myself and all of the other die-hard Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings fans out there, since its star has just dropped a new update on when we can expect a sequel.

Over on the brand-spanking-new Twitter competitor, Threads, actor Simu Liu petitioned his followers with the post; “ask me anything threads edition?” When a fan inquired about when we might see Shang-Chi 2 hit theaters, Liu gave an insightful-yet-cryptic update:

“[W]as told it would follow avengers but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control 🙁 hope to have more concrete news to share soon.”

Unfortunately, Liu did not go into further details beyond this, which left a lot of fans wanting more because we still don’t know if he’s technically talking about 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. A lot of people kept pressing for answers on Liu’s post, too, but to no avail.

Based on this information, it’s somewhat safe to say Shang-Chi 2 will release somewhere in the ballpark of 2026, considering the aforementioned Avengers films are only one year apart. What we do know is that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has already been tapped to helm not only the Shang Chi’s solo sequel, but Kang Dynasty as well. Hopefully this means Shang-Chi 2 is coming sooner rather than later, since perhaps the events in the sequel will lead into the next Avengers adventure.

On the more pessimistic side, Liu’s allusion to release dates continuing to be pushed back may be due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike as well as the possibility of the Screen Actors Guild following suit. This could spell a delay for not only Shang-Chi 2, but perhaps the forthcoming Avengers films as well.
