Why Marvel May Hold Off On Releasing The Captain Marvel Trailer

Despite the fact production is still underway, late last week, rumour had it that a “short promo” for Captain Marvel has been cut and is working through the “Disney marketing machine.” Fast forward a few days, and word's gotten around that the teaser in question will be unveiled at CineEurope later today, although Marvel Studios has yet to confirm or deny the debut.

While it would make sense to drop the advertisement at the longest running European trade show and convention for the film industry, the timing just doesn’t add up, unfortunately. I get it; the MCU fandom is a little high-strung at the moment on account of the Avengers: Infinity War climax. Mix in the post-credits scene involving Nick Fury and his last transmission, and it’s no wonder we’re all chomping at the bit.

However, let’s look at it logically. Marvel Studios will typically release a premiere trailer four to six months prior to the opening of the corresponding film. So, should their formula stand pat, this would mean a teaser for Captain Marvel shouldn’t arrive until July or August, which brings me to the next point.

With Ant-Man and the Wasp scheduled for release less than a month from now (July 6th), why would Marvel want to overshadow their twentieth outing? Especially when you consider that San Diego Comic-Con, a much, much bigger venue than CineEurope, is set to kick-off in roughly two weeks.

I know, Marvel Studios has said it would not have a full presence at SDCC this year, but what better way could there possibly be to drop a surprise first look at the twenty-first MCU entry, Captain Marvel?

Regardless of which side of the fence you may fall on, we’ll have our answer soon enough and once we know more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
