Is Marvel Planning A New Solo Hulk Film?

After the two problematic missteps that were Hulk and The Incredible Hulk, one imagines that filmmakers would be a bit shy about attempting another Hulk film. But since the casting of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner and his big green alter ego in The Avengers, discussion of another solo outing for the character have started up again.

According to Latino Review, Marvel has plans to launch Ruffalo in a franchise of his own. Picking up on an interview that Lou Ferrigno (that’s the guy who was the Hulk on the 70s tv series) gave to a radio station in Minnesota, the report claims that there are plans afoot to put Ruffalo’s version of the Hulk in his own solo feature. Ferrigno said that the film will happen after Avengers: Age of Ultron is finished, which means that we can expect another Hulk film in the near future.

Ferrigno does have some inside information on the matter, as he provides the Hulk’s voice in both The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel tends to play close to the chest on these kinds of plans, but it’s perfectly likely that they are at least considering the launching of a Hulk franchise. Ruffalo was a fan favorite in The Avengers, embodying both the intelligent and tortured Bruce Banner and his angry alter ego better than either of his two predecessors: Eric Bana and Edward Norton.

While we should always take such rumors with a grain of salt, especially when they’re coming through non-official channels, I suppose there’s no reason why there shouldn’t be another film featuring the Incredible Hulk. We shall have to wait and see what Marvel has to say about this though. That is, if they say anything.

We’ll keep an eye out for news of a solo Hulk film and let you know if anything arises. In the meantime, you will be able to catch the Incredible Hulk in all his glory in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits theatres on May 1st, 2015.
