Marvel Still Has Plans For Baron Zemo In The MCU

Captain America: Civil War was a hugely important installment in the MCU, as many of the characters, story arcs and revelations that it featured have gone on to shape the franchise in major ways in the years since. One addition it made that hasn't returned as yet though is Zemo, the manipulative mastermind played by Daniel Bruhl. However, we're hearing that the villain is likely to reappear in the future.

We Got This Covered has been informed that Marvel still has plans for Zemo in the MCU, even though he’s been a no-show since Civil War. At the end of the movie, he was locked up by the government for his crimes, with Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross taunting him for his loss. Yet, the smug look on his face teased that he was pleased with his accomplishment and could still return to cause more havoc for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

While many praised Bruhl’s performance, some fans were critical of how much the Russos changed Zemo from his characterization in the comics. Apart from doing away with his signature pink hood, the movie version altered his backstory as a HYDRA leader to a vengeful Sokovian who wanted the Avengers to pay for indirectly causing the death of his family. It wasn’t as much a controversy as the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3, but Marvel may wish to bring the villain more in line with the comics in further appearances.

Zemo’s also known for being the head of the Masters of Evil, the team of supervillains who’ve long been a pain in the side of Captain America and the Avengers. Even if he’s more grounded, it would make sense for the movie version of Zemo to return with a gang of enemies who also have it in for our heroes. An MCU Masters of Evil – though probably not with that name – does seem plausible, after all.

The only concrete info we have for now, though, is that Marvel has something up their sleeve for the supervillain. And until we hear more, feel free to let us know how you’d like Zemo to return in the comments section down below.
