Marvel Wants Ryan Coogler To Direct Black Panther

According to Heroic Hollywood, Marvel has their eye on director Ryan Coogler for the upcoming Black Panther film. If the name sounds familiar, it's because the filmmaker broke out with his Sundance hit Fruitvale Station and is currently gearing up to release Creed. The studio hasn't given confirmation on this particular rumor just yet, but it does make a bit of sense.

According to Heroic Hollywood, Marvel has their eye on director Ryan Coogler for the upcoming Black Panther movie. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the filmmaker broke out in a big way with his Sundance hit Fruitvale Station and is currently gearing up to release Rocky spinoff Creed.

The studio hasn’t given confirmation on this particular rumor just yet, but it does make a bit of sense. While Coogler has found favor with critics, he’s not exactly a household name at the moment, nor has he really had any experience with big, blockbuster projects. Given where he is in his career right now though, signing on for something like Black Panther does make sense, as it would give him the exposure he needs to really hit that next level of fame.

Plus, he seems like the kind of guy Marvel would want in their wheelhouse, given how he’s about to see his career really take off. The studio is known for zeroing in on emerging talent that are on the cusp of hitting the A-list, and Coogler certainly fits that profile.

Black Panther will be with us on February 16th, 2018. We’ll let you know when we hear more on this, but for now, let us know in the comments section if you’d like to see Ryan Coogler direct the film.
