Sean Gunn, brother of the shunned James, has reassured Marvel fans that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still on the way.

Marvel Studios is still very much committed to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – with or without James Gunn.

That’s the latest from Sean Gunn, the man responsible for Kraglin and much of Rocket Raccoon’s motion capture performance throughout the Guardians series. Asked straight-up if the third (and perhaps final?) chapter was still in development, Gunn – Sean, not James – took the opportunity to reassure MCU fans that, while his brother currently has his hands full with The Suicide Squad relaunch at Warner Bros., Vol. 3 is coming down the pike.

Via AP:

Well, my brother is doing Suicide Squad 2 right now, which I’m really excited about and I know he’s really excited about. I don’t know what’s going on beyond that. I mean, Guardians 3 is gonna get made. We’re gonna make that movie, and we’ll figure out what happens there, but you know, everything ends up having a way of working itself out, I think.

As you’ll no doubt recall, Disney and Marvel Studios severed ties with James Gunn in 2018, when a number of gross and insensitive tweets were discovered. The subsequent fallout led to Gunn’s removal from Guardians 3 and the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, though there are those who believe the decision was unjust, particularly when you consider the accusations leveled against Bryan Singer, who somehow – almost inexplicably – continues to land plum $10 million gigs despite multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

Regardless, Sean Gunn later touched on the issue of his brother’s dismissal:

Things got a little bit crazy for a minute because outrage overwhelmed common sense. We’re gonna get there, we’re gonna make our movie and we’re gonna find our way. Maybe it took a couple of years longer than it was supposed to, but so what.

The search for a replacement director on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continues unabated, though Marvel Studios is clearly in no rush, given there are bigger fish (see: Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame) to fry.
