Though there are still a number of beloved heroes and villains that moviegoers would love to see up on the silver screen, Marvel’s done a pretty good job of bringing many of their most famous creations to life in live-action over the years. They haven’t always been successful though, as every so often there’s a character who simply isn’t done justice – whether that’s due to the actor playing them or the movie they’re stuck in.
One such example is Silver Surfer (real name Norrin Radd). Originally created by Jack Kirby, with Stan Lee helping to develop him, he’s appeared on film before but like so many others, he can definitely use another go. As you surely remember, Doug Jones played him in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, a pretty mediocre affair that didn’t do the character justice. As such, fans have been wanting to see a new interpretation of him for years now and it seems they may soon get their wish.
According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Marvel Studios is planning a new vehicle for Silver Surfer, given that they’re about to get the rights to the character back thanks to the Disney/Fox deal. From what we’ve been told, it’ll be an origins movie that features Radd doing missions for Galactus and will take place mostly in space, making it another cosmic adventure for the House of Ideas.
Details beyond that remain scarce at this early, early stage, and given that we imagine this project is still a long ways away from hitting theaters, things can always change. But seeing as Silver Surfer is one of the most popular Marvel characters not yet in the MCU, we imagine that Marvel’s eager to introduce him and once Avengers: Endgame has come and gone, you can expect to hear a lot more about what the studio has planned for all the properties they’re about to acquire from Fox.
