Giant Freakin Robot has shared what could be a big spoiler for the sequel if it’s true, unveiling a major twist to do with the central villain’s identity. The outlet is reporting that The Marvels will begin with a male antagonist but they will be shockingly killed off halfway through. A different villain will then emerge as the real threat that Carol and her allies will have to defeat. GFR is unable to reveal either the characters or the actors behind these two villains as yet.

If this info is accurate then it sounds like the filmmakers are attempting to top, or at least match, the memorable twist in the first Captain Marvel that completely are upended our expectations about who the villain was. Initially, the 2019 origins flick depicted the Skrulls as the bad guys of the piece before we discovered they were being persecuted by the Kree, led by Jude Law’s Yon-Rogg, the real main antagonist.

This was a huge twist for the movie itself and it went on to have major repercussions for the franchise going forward – Ben Mendelsohn’s Skrull leader Talos cameod in Spider-Man: Far From Home and will team up with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in Secret Invasion. So this mysterious villain in the sequel could likewise be just as massive depending on their identity. Could this surprise figure become one of the MCU’s next big bads? It seems plausible

From director Nia DaCosta, The Marvels is shooting now ahead of its arrival in theaters on November 11th, 2022.
