If you let Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon somehow slip by you back when it released in 2006, then you made a big mistake. Scott Glosserman’s slasher-gem is simply one of the most genius re-incarnations of horror explanation in the past few decades, attacking conventional slasher horror norms through documentary-type exploits that give you an unprecedented look into the killer’s life – the planning, the preparation, the execution, it’s all here.

Even the smallest details are picked up and satirically dealt with, presenting dark entertainment that viewers gobbled up with glee 12 years ago. Not to mention the bloody brilliant third act that came after the jabs had been thrown and the background work established. Hell, I couldn’t get the Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer out of my head for weeks thanks to Glosserman’s film.

In short, Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a must-watch for fans of the genre, which is why we’re pleased to report today that the long awaited sequel is finally moving forward. Or at least, it sure looks like it is.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

After many attempts to get another film off the ground, a photo was posted to Facebook this week of what appeared to be a table read, with stars Nathan “Leslie” Baesel and Angela “Taylor” Goethals pictured along with Glosserman. Accompanied by a cryptic caption – “What the hell is going on here????? Anyone anyone???? #moviemagic #itshappening” – fans immediately begun speculating that at long last, a follow-up of some sort is coming together. And while that remains unconfirmed for now, it definitely looks like something is happening with the property.

That being said, as we mentioned before, there’ve been numerous attempts at bringing the titular character back to the big screen and to date, nothing’s materialized. Will Glosserman finally be able to succeed and give us another cinematic outing for Leslie Vernon? We certainly hope so, and will continue to keep you posted should any further updates arise.

In the meantime, tell us, are you still hopeful that we’ll one day see a sequel to Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon? Let us know in the usual place.
