It’s been rumored, it’s been shot down, it’s been hoped for, and some unnamed fans may have even said a prayer or two for it to happen, but the days of waiting and wondering are now over. Matt Damon has confirmed a return to Bourne.
In a red carpet interview for the new season of Project Greenlight, Damon and Ben Affleck were jokingly asked about whether Affleck’s bat-muscles came into play when decisions were being made. Affleck then casually said that Damon is getting back in shape for Bourne, so the advantage is minimal. Then Damon was asked to confirm, which is exactly what he did.
“Yes, next year. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”
This isn’t totally new information, as we’ve heard multiple times over the past few months that the reunion was a possibility. First, Universal was in talks with the pair about reuniting to make a fourth Jason Bourne film, then it came out that Jeremy Renner’s future with the franchise isn’t dead. But to hear it actually coming from Damon’s mouth that not only is it getting made, but it’s going into production in 2015, well, that’s enough to have even the most cynical fans excited.
We haven’t heard anything in terms of plot details for Bourne 5 yet, but with Greengrass and Damon back at the helm, we know that we’re in for a treat.
