Matt Reeves Confirms Ben Affleck For The Batman

Following along with The Batman has been a stressful saga for fans, what with Ben Affleck dropping out as the director despite numerous claims he would remain at the helm, and his eventual replacement being named as Matt Reeves. Despite that, the movie being released in 2018 is now looking like an impossibility and many remain unconvinced that Affleck will be reprising the role once Justice League is in the can and his current commitments to the DC Extended Universe come to an end.

There really should be no reason to doubt that the actor will star in The Batman at this stage though, as the project’s troubles seem to be far behind it. Still, just in case you needed even more reassurance that Big Ben remains on board, we’ve got exactly that for you.

The word comes straight from the horse’s mouth this time, as Reeves was asked by Getty during the War for the Planet of the Apes premiere if the plan was still to have Affleck suit up as the Caped Crusader. Much to the surprise of no one, the director replied with: “Yeah, right now that’s exactly what’s going on, for sure.”

Again, it’s not like we really need anymore confirmation at this stage, but we’ll take it regardless, especially since there’s still a handful of people who remain skeptical – though they really shouldn’t be. Sure, at one point it did seem like Affleck might depart the franchise, but with the DCEU turning a corner now thanks to Wonder Woman and a talented director on board to steer The Batman in the right direction, we see no reason for the actor to give up the cape and cowl anymore.

Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight will next be featured at the forefront of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on November 17th. This, coupled with the fact that Matt Reeves has his hands full with War For the Planet of the Apes, leads us to believe that The Batman won’t begin filming in earnest until 2018. It may be some time before we get any further updates then, but as always, watch this space for more.
