MCU fave confirmed to be the secret ‘primary antagonist’ of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

With Sony’s latest press release, the superhero fandom has been left with zero doubts as to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse rising to become one of the best blockbuster movies in history.

While Into the Spider-Verse was already a brilliant movie that revolutionized genre filmmaking with its unique art style and bold narrative decisions, Across the Spider-Verse is taking that one step further by doing everything its predecessor did on top of being the biggest Spidey crossover event in history.

By the time Across the Spider-Verse is through with fans, their favorite MCU project from Phase Four, No Way Home, will only pale in comparison. And according to what the producers have just revealed, it’s not only the numerous Spider-people showing up in the sequel; Across the Sider-Verse is taking a page out of No Way Home’s playbook by incorporating several villains into the story.

While the character known as Spot (portrayed by Jason Schwartzman) is the story’s main villain, director Kemp Powers has revealed (via Entertainment Weekly) that Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 is also a character to be wary of.

“Let’s be honest: Oscar has an incredible amount of gravitas. When he wants to feel threatening, he can really, really feel threatening,” Powers said.

Apparently, Spider-Man 2099, portrayed by Moon Knight star and MCU initiate Oscar Isaac, is organizing an “elite interdimensional group called the Spider Society” and will stop at nothing to protect the Multiverse. The Spot may be the sequel’s overarching villain, but when it comes to Miles himself, 2099 is being described as his “primary antagonist.”

Across the Spider-Verse opens in theaters on June 2.
