It looks like Michael Bay is going to tarnish many childhood memories once again. At the annual Nickelodeon Upfront in New York, Bay said he was going to rework the origins of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in his upcoming Platinum Dunes-produced film. And it’s sure to upset many fans of the beloved, pizza-eating, heroes in a half-shell.

“When you see this movie, kids are going to believe one day these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie, said Bay. These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable.”

The original story of the Ninja Turtles had the turtles and their rat leader, Splinter, transformed from normal rodents to ninjitsu trained butt kickers. They were all tough, edgy, loveable and funny. I’m not sure what Bay would accomplish by turning them into an alien race but then again, it’s Bay, so the whole alien background shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

What is your reaction to Bay reworking the story? Share your thoughts below.
