After taking home a Golden Globe last night for Behind the Candelabra, Michael Douglas’ hot streak continues today with news that he’s been cast in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. The actor will play the first iteration of the character, Hank Pym. Paul Rudd, on the other hand, will portray Scott Lang, who only becomes the titular hero one he steals the tech from Pym.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige had the following to say about the casting decision:

With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.

So, there you have it. Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd will lead Ant-Man. They’re certainly unexpected choices but then again, when has Marvel ever gone with anyone conventional for their films? Besides, Douglas is a very likeable actor (as is Rudd) and both should bring a healthy dose of charm to the project.

Ant-Man crawls into theatres on July 31, 2015. We’ll keep you posted once we hear more. For now though, tell us, what you think of Douglas’ casting?
